Our Moms

Since Singleton Moms started late in 2006 we have been able to help 52 parents and 116 children. This is something we are all very proud of!  This is a good start, but as we grow the numbers are only going up; we now have a waiting list single moms who need our help.

Your financial contributions, no matter the size, allow us to continue our work and to have a one-on-one relationship with all of our moms. They can call us whenever they have a need and we will always try and find a way to meet it. Here are a few of the moms we are helping.

Moms Spotlight

Each month we will spotlight one of our moms so that you may learn a little more about her story.

Jennifer - Mesa

Mom Jennifer and children

Two years ago, after being a stay-at-home mom to her three beautiful children for eleven years, Jennifer went through an unexpected and painful divorce. But Jennifer didn’t let the divorce get her down; she decided to look towards the future and went back to school. She hadn’t chosen a major yet but was leaning in the direction of a career in Medical Records.

All of this came to an abrupt halt in March of this year when she was diagnosed with triple negative stage 3b breast cancer, a rare form of the disease. She immediately had a lumpectomy and began TAC chemotherapy every 21 days. It has been a very exhausting course of treatment for her, “The phrase sick and tired has taken on a new meaning since being diagnosed”, said Jennifer. Jennifer’s last treatment was on August 3rd, but because she has tested positive for the breast cancer gene she will be going in for surgery the first week in September to have a full hysterectomy followed by 35 radiation treatments.

Jennifer has been unable to work through her treatment and is not receiving the child support or alimony due, so she has had to move in with her former in-laws.  Unfortunately, the living conditions are very cramped and undesirable.  While talking about her living situation she said, “It’s frustrating; I can’t support my family on my own.”  Jennifer’s parents have been an amazing support system for her and are working diligently to close on a home for all of them to live in.  In the mean time Tara, Jennifer’s Singleton Moms Care Coordinator, has been bringing over meals and helping Jennifer pack for her move.  “The kids just love her” Jennifer says about Tara, “and she has been a great help to me.”

Tara is new to the Singleton Moms Care Coordinator team and Jennifer is her first mom.  “I appreciate Singleton Moms opening up their arms to folks of all faith and walks of life to support women who need to honestly know they are not forgotten or alone”, said Tara.  Singleton Moms is extremely grateful to have her support.  Care Coordinators are a vital part of the organization and allow the organization the opportunity to maintain their hands on care.

Jennifer’s mom found Singleton Moms while online researching assistance for her daughter.  “I was so relieved to find out there was something like you out there” said Jennifer. “The meals have been a life saver and have made dinner time much easier.  Having Tara to help has been great! I am very grateful.”  Jennifer has a long road ahead of her but through it all she continues to look toward the future, onto a day, when she is cancer free and can begin to give back to other women like her.
